After a night of winter camping and a predawn ski tour, my skiing partner and I discovered we weren't the only ones already in place for a spectacular sunrise. These wild ponies were apparently placed here in the 1970's to control plant growth and keep the summit balds trimmed down. Location: Grayson Highlands State Park, VA
